What we do
Crown Shrine is a small editorial project dedicated to writing clear, well-photographed travel guides to the principal churches and cathedrals of London. We are not affiliated with any of the institutions described — they are listed because we believe they are worth a visitor's time, not because we are paid to feature them.
Editorial approach
Each church page is written from first-hand visits and verified against published academic and ecclesiastical sources. Architectural dates, dedications and historical claims are checked against authoritative references; if we are uncertain, we say so. Practical information — opening times, ticket prices, transport — is liable to change, and we recommend confirming at the church's own website before you travel.
How this guide is organised
- Twelve churches — one page each, with history, architecture, what to see and how to visit.
- History — fifteen centuries of Christian London in one short essay.
- Architecture — a guide to recognising the styles you will meet.
- Plan a Visit — practical advice, etiquette and a static map.
Photography
Where photographs of interior detail are not our own, we use original visual material commissioned for this guide. Architectural drawings and historical engravings, where shown, are out of copyright.
Independent and ad-free
We accept no advertising, no commission and no paid placements. The site is funded out of pocket by its editor.
